Pine Apple Rag

I LOVE this song! I discovered it a couple of months ago, and it so fun to listen to and to play. Here is a great video I found on YouTube. It doesn't sound difficult; he makes it look and sound easy! But, just try to get your left hand to bounce back and forth that quickly and accurately!

To print your own copy:

Go to: The Petrucci Music Library The Petrucci Music Library (http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page)

On the left side, under "Browse Scores," click "Composer Name"

At the top, click the letter "J"

Scroll down, and click "Joplin, Scott"

Click "Pine Apple Rag"

Inside the first gray box, click "Complete Score." This will take you to a disclaimer page about the legality of downloading the song. Yes, it is legal to download this song in the United States; it is in the public domain.

Click "I accept this disclaimer" then you can download the song.

Print and Play!

Take a Piano Sheet Music Break

I found a new piano site that I really like. Check out http://www.take-a-piano-sheet-music-break.com for a collection of great, free sheet music. I really like this site because it's layout is clean and organized. It has a nice collection of classical, jazz and pop music, too.

I printed off the song "Only Hope" from the movie A Walk to Remember from this site. If you'd like your own copy, click on the above link. On the left side of the homepage, click "Free Popular" inside the black box. Scroll down to "Mandy Moore," and you'll see two versions of the song. The first one is simplified, but both versions are beautiful. They're PDF files, so just save them to your computer, print off, and play!

Have fun looking around their site. You'll find songs from Billy Joel, Coldplay, Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, and many more. Happy playing!

*I added the link for the Take a Piano Sheet Music Break site to the right hand sidebar of this blog, so you can easily access it another time.

Love Story meets Viva la Vida

Jon Schmidt combines Taylor Swift's Love Story with Coldplay's Viva la Vida. I could listen to this a million times over and never get tired of it.

Here is the link to the video on YouTube:

If that doesn't work, just go to YouTube and search for Jon Schmidt and Viva la Vida. Enjoy!

Cute couple performs in the Mayo Clinic

In 2008, patients at the Mayo Clinic were treated to an impromptu concert performed by Fran and Marlow Cowan (who, at the time, had been married for more than 62 years!). You can read more by clicking these links:

Fur Elise

This is a wonderful performance of Beethoven's Fur Elise. The pianist plays with correct fingering, at a good tempo, and with feeling. Watch the written notes go by as he plays them and pay attention to his fingering.

If you would like to print your own free copy of Fur Elise, follow these steps:

http://www.all-about-beethoven.com/beethovenmusicsheet.html

1. Click on the above link.

2. Scroll down that page, and Fur Elise will be the third song listed under "Free Beethoven Sheet Music."

3. Click the link, and a box will pop up asking where you would like to save the file.

4. Choose where you want the file and click save.

5. Once you save the file on your computer, you may open the PDF and print the music. Enjoy playing this beautiful piece!
